A Little Something Extra: Supplementary Warps and Wefts,
A 3 Day Round-Robin Workshop with Ellen Hess
In this round robin workshop, participants will explore compound weave structures using supplementary warp and weft elements to create patterning and textures. Used in regional weaving traditions for centuries, additional warp or weft yarns offer the weaver a way to embellish a basic weave structure like plain weave with surface interest and simple to ornate design elements.
Using 4- and 8-shaft threadings, participants will explore the wide range of weave structures
possible with supplementary warps, supplementary wefts or both, and learn techniques for
tensioning supplementary warps.
Requirements: A 4 or eight shaft table or floor loom.
Supplies Needed:
-Two shuttles and extra bobbins
-Various colors of yarn in the appropriate size indicated in instructions for weft
-Warp weights, pins, needles, scissors, and other tools you might need
Skill Level: This Workshop is perfect for Advanced beginners to Advanced level floor loom
weavers and would like to create a series of samples through the exploration of this structure.
