An Exploration of Diversified Plain Weave: A 3 Day Round-Robin Workshop with Vila Cox
In this workshop you’ll learn what makes Diversified Plain Weave (DPW) special. Threading, treadling, and tie-ups are just the start. During the round-robin workshop participants will weave samples and explore the effect color and yarn selection also has on DPW. Learn how to convert six shaft patterns into DPW and change existing DPW patterns. Discover what makes a design stand out in Diversified Plain Weave. You'll bring home samples to add to your weaving resource library.
Requirements: An eight shaft loom. Note: See registration options below. Registration for this workshop will close Monday July 7 unless it sells out before then.
Supplies Needed:
-Two shuttles and extra bobbins
-Various colors of yarn in the appropriate size indicated in instructions for weft
-Warp weights, reed & heddle hooks, pins, needles, scissors, and other tools you might need
-Bobbin of “waste” yarn to use between samples
-Leftover warp yarn to deal with broken warp ends, if necessary

About the Instructor:
Vila Cox started her journey in fiber arts at an early age, embroidering pillowcases before she learned to read. She explored many types of fiber arts, including taking her first weaving class in 1997. She joined the Handweavers Guild of Boise Valley in 1998 and first joined Complex Weavers in 2000. Vila has an active role in both organizations and believes, “The more you give to an organization, the more it gives back to you.” Vila completed the HGA Certification of Excellence in Weaving in 2011 with the Level II topic of “Multi-Harness Diversified Plain Weave.” Vila is a “structure/pattern” weaver and loves the designs that can be created in handwoven cloth.
