floor loom weaving:
HARTFORD

Winter class registration is open!
In addition to our beginner, intermediate and advanced floor loom classes, we continue our advanced level learning for experienced weavers with a new topic in "A Weaver's Study" with Fran Curran. The winter class focus in "A Weaver's Study" will be on Color.
Please note: Capacity is limited for "A Weaver's Study" and there is no priority registration for the next session. For details on this class, please read the full description below.
Our Floor Loom class program begins each September with our Fall classes. Students who register for our Beginner, Beyond Beginner or Intermediate/Advanced Fall Floor Loom class and choose to continue, will receive priority registration for additional Floor Loom classes within that year. This format allows a student to continue to build skills and confidence in weaving. However, because of this, space is limited for class registration for our Winter and Spring classes. If you are currently on our waitlist and a space becomes available, we will notify you.
If you prefer, please add your name to be notified for upcoming classes. If you add your name, we will notify you in advance about the opening day/time of registration. All registration is through this website, we do not accept mailed in registrations or registration in advance.

Advanced Floor Loom: A Weaver's Study with Fran Curran
This class is for students who have a deep interest in a focused study of fiber and structure. The objective of this class is to take an in-depth look at all aspects of designing and producing woven cloth.
The Winter session topic will be focused on Color. Color is a very important ingredient in any weaving and is often used to describe a woven item ie: the blue towel, the red scarf, etc. It is not always easy to achieve the desired effect with color, so in this class we will focus on various ways to make color work for you. There will be a series of loom samples to weave "round robin" and analyze to help understand how colors behave in weaving. The class will culminate with everyone designing and weaving their own piece with the use of color as the central theme. Bench time will be available for students starting January 8 for 9 weeks, plus the 2 weeks after class has ended.
Prerequisite: Independent Weaver who has completed a variety of handwoven projects.
Please note: Capacity is limited to 10 students. Students registering for this class do not receive priority registration for the Spring Session.

Lecture: Understanding Block Weaves and Profile Drafting
How many times have you asked, “I understand how to weave it, but how did you come up with those tie ups?” Somehow the concept of block weaves and profile drafting mystifies weavers of all levels of weaving experience. Yet, by understanding the basic principles, a weaver can take a draft and substitute the structure of their choice to weave it in, (provided their loom has the number of shafts needed.) Understanding block weaves and profile drafting allows weavers to be in charge what they are weaving. This course will help you take that jump past Beyond Beginner and into creating your own designs!
